Dude cuts up and eats his roommate's pineapple because she bought it on December 19th: 'She has a history of leaving fruit on the shelves until it goes bad.'

  • An unrecognizable man cutting a pineapple on chopping board
  • My roommate bought a pineapple on December 19 for a party we had at our place. It wasn't ripe yet, so we ended up not cutting it up for the party and it's been sitting there ever since
  • Yesterday I noticed that it was on its way out, so I decided I decided to cut it up. I probably threw away 1/3rd of it that wasn't good to eat, ate
  • another 1/3rd, and put the rest in a container in the fridge. I meant to tell her, but totally forgot
  • This morning she woke up and saw that the pineapple was gone, and is upset with me about it
  • She has a history of leaving fruit and vegetables on the shelves until they go bad and just have to completely be thrown away. So I figured I'd save the pineapple while it still had some life left. Realistically
  • I should have asked before I did it, but it didn't seem like a big deal. Had the roles been reversed I would not give two shits about it.
  • ImpossibleReason2204 "Hey, Roommate, would you like me to cut up the pineapple? It looks like it's ripe now." Basic communication. YTA
  • OP K-Pumper Very true. I should have done that, I'd just gotten home from work and it was like 1AM and I had energy and she was asleep. So I neglected to ask. I also overlooked that others feel differently about their stuff in the house than I do. As a household we all share things like spices, olive oil, butter.... and just take turns buying it And my other roommate and I buy separate groceries, but are very lax about our stuff. If there's beers in the fridge, fruit, eggs, milk, LaCroix, rice..
  • A refrigerator filled with lots of food and drinks
  • Trenin23 FYI - pineapples do not ripen after they've been picked. That is why you should never select an unripe pineapple from the store because it will go directly from unripe to rotten.
  • OP K-Pumper i don't think i've ever seen a ripe pineapple in the store lol
  • Close up texture of a ripe pineapple skin
  • rocjard Soft YTA since you didn't ask beforehand. I'd get annoyed too if I had a roommate with a habit of letting food spoil like this, but I would still ask before doing anything with it.
  • jmgolden33 I mean you ate 1/3 of her pineapple, so it's kind of funny that you just nonchalantly justify this by saying it was on its way out. It was obviously edible and enticing enough for you to eat! Also the fact that they are annoyed over a few dollar pineapple tells me that you don't have a clean track record with them. YTA
  • thechaoticstorm Soft YTA Even if it was going bad, it wasn't yours to take. You needed to ask first.
  • Broken-Ice-Cube Ya YTA so what if she let's it go to waste? It's hers
  • Gattina1 >Realistically I should have asked before I did it, but it didn't seem like a big deal. YTA.
  • iiiamash01i0 YTA. You should have asked first.
  • ESH. 1962Michael She's an AH for leaving fruit out to rot on the counter. Repeatedly. However, you're still an AH for not asking her if it was OK for you to cut it up. Cutting it up for her and throwing out the bad stuff was arguably doing her a favor. But it's no longer a favor if you ate half of what was left, with out asking.
  • GladPerformer598 YTA for not asking or even letting her know. Come on, you know this.
